A concentrated solar energy solution for upcycling mineral non-recyclable waste into carbon-free construction materials
Waste disposal is the method of waste treatment that should be avoided as far as possible. It should be reserved for "final" waste for which no other recovery is possible. Heliosand's innovation introduces an upcycling solution for some categories of "final" waste, transforming them into sustainable construction materials as a low-carbon alternative to landfilling and ocean dumping of polluted and mineral wastes. Heliosand's solar concentrator provides a fusion process up to 4000°C that vitrifies a mix of mineral waste and non-recoverable waste. The output material is a mix of slag and obsidian that is used as a substitute of clinker, concrete aggregates, road base layer and paving.
