80% of the total smartphone volume sold is estimated to remain in drawers (hibernating). Back2Buzz incentives customers to trade in their old mobile devices, to refurbish them and give them an extended life. By using a widget, an app, and a solid back system, Back2Buzz can give higher residual values for a trade-in device than the competition making it more interesting for a customer to trade in older devices. By refurbishing mobile devices, the life cycle of a mobile device is extended by at least 24 months. At the end of the full life cycle (which can be up to 6 years), Back2Buzz makes sure that those devices are recovered and recycled correctly, meaning that the batterie is recycled by official instances (Bebat) and that other precious elements (gold, silver, copper) are recovered from other components.
The Environmental Benefits
- •80% of the total smartphone volume sold is estimated to remain in drawers (hibernating) as the incentive or residual value is not big enough for customer to turn in their old device
- •The life span of a smartphone is estimated at 23 months where the full potential could be 6 years by refurbishing
- •Each newly produced smartphone needs 30 kilos of raw material for a phone in average of 130 grams and 80% of the total CO2 production in the lifecycle of a smartphone comes from its production
- •At the end of the lifecycle of the phone, precious materials (cobalt, copper, gold, titanium, etc) can be recovered instead of ending up on a waste mountain

- •A higher residual value is economically more interesting for a customer to trade-in a old mobile device than to keep it in a drawer
- •A well kept mobile device can be given a second and even a third life, extending the life cycle of a mobile device from 23 months average up to 6 years
