Identification

Addibond is a polymer used for adhesive bonding of aluminum to manufacture lightweight body-in-white/chassis of passenger cars, replacing steel. It allows the development of aluminum-intensive cars, 20% lighter than steel-intensive cars, a key lever to reduce CO2 emissions of road transportation. Addibond improves the strength and resistance of chemical bonds (creating covalent bonds) leading to improved durability & mechanical performance of the chassis (initial and during usage). It also contributes to electric vehicles expansion increasing vehicles range, decreasing battery size, weight requirement and reducing vibrations/noise during car lifetime.

  • 26 millions metric tons of CO2 emissions can be avoided in 2030 allowed by shifting to aluminum chassis for passenger car and light duty vehicles (assuming 30% of cars are converted)
  • 90%+ of aluminum is recycled in the automobile industry and 80% less energy used to recycle aluminum compared primary aluminum production
03.

The Financial benefits

  • From carbon credit point of view: 26 million metric tons of CO2 (at 100 €/Ton) would translate into 2.6 billion euros "savings"
  • For the consumer,180€ yearly savings at current oil price (will increase)
  • Aluminum recycling will generate significant savings for the automotive industry compared to primary aluminum production (energy and mineral ore extraction cost)
