Grino Water Solutions GmbH - An automated, battery-free, solar-based water desalination system.

A permanent solution against the global water shortage. The solution does not need any infrastructure and can meet all restrictions in remote areas. It can produce high-quality drinking water from any type of water including seawater, brackish water, or groundwater. The system does not need any energy supply and our solar-based desalination can provide all its required energy. Seawater and sun energy as the most abundant resources in the world. By removing batteries, not only does the system stands alone for up to 15 years with the lowest maintenance, but also the invented control system can run the system in dynamic mode and control the quality of the water and whole operation conditions. This means that the system is fully automated and does not need an operator. To guarantee the quality of water and predict upcoming operation problems, a remote control system is also included.

Key features

  • Owing to the battery-less technology, battery charging, discharging and the intermediate converters are removed completely leading to less energy conversion stages and 60% less energy losses.
  • A fully automated system. An irradiation sensor continuously measures the available solar energy and starts/stops the system automatically. This leads to 0.0% energy loss and less operation costs.
  • A unique energy management system, which controls the whole energy stream from one controller. This method significantly increases water production.
  • Running the RO with solar energy instead of fossil fuels reduces 90% of the global warming potential (GWP). Removing batteries reduce about 35% of CO2 compared with conventional ones.
  • In battery fabrication processes, Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are released, which have a negative effect on ozone depletion (ODP). Removing the batteries can reduce the ODP by about 10%. Battery production also contributes to 25% of the Human Toxicity Pot

  • The average payback time is less than 3 years: Mozambique: 5 years – Ghana: 2.6 years – Haiti: 1.31 years and India: 1.81 years
  • By removing batteries, both CPAEX and OPEX are reduced. The investment cost of our system is 30% less than conventional systems using batteries.
  • Containerized solution reduces installation costs and time. This version is ready to operate and easy to deploy.
