A high-tech foil for the perfect building-integration of photovoltaic renewable energy

July 2019
Gallery Solaxess 1
Gallery Solaxess 1

Solaxess develops and manufactures a high-tech foil that allows architects and designers to maintain their aesthetic vision by making PV modules appear white or light-colored.

The technology is a nanotechnology polymer foil. This allows PV modules to appear white or colored to the human eye and yet retain excellent power output. As a result, Solaxess provides a solution for renewable energy integration into the built environment. Developers, architects, and ultimately owners have the possibility to integrate photovoltaic energy perfectly on façades and roofs with white or light-colored active full building elements that are cost effective, durable and aesthetically pleasing. It is compatible with flexible/curved surfaces and can be adapted to any size and shape required by design.

Implementation Stories

Solaxess by Solaxess SA
Implemented by EWZ in Zurich (Switzerland) in 2021

EWZ, Zurich’s electricity company commissioned Solaxess, in collaboration with 3S Swiss Solar Solutions AG for the manufacture of photovoltaic panels in 2021. Solaxess integrated terracotta-colored films on two south-oriented surfaces on a protected building in the city center. The building, which is partly occupied by a unit of the security department of the City of Zurich, had certain standards and visual constraints to be met, since it is part of the city’s historic center.

The energy produced by the system covers the energy needs of 25 to 30 families

The environmental benefits

  • An excellent power output > 100 Wp (Watt-peek) per m2 even for a vivid white and matt active surface.
  • Compatible with most solar technologies.
