Maturity stage TRL 9 / CRI 3-4 - Commercial Scale Up / Multiple commercial Applications

An innovative hydraulic reservoir design where the solution aims to replace in many applications the classic, bulky-heavy tanks. Based on aerospace reservoir design, the concept is affordable and adapted for land & subsea applications. Its prime objective is to get the minimal carbon footprint by its construction, and mainly when filled with hydraulic fluid. Thus, its volume can be 20 times less than a classic reservoir and its weight 100 times less. Its concept is based on a flexible membrane using the commercial name Variable Volume Reservoir (VVR). When filled with fluid, it will compensate for thermal expansion and cylinder rod volume. Over classic reservoir, the VVR offers many benefits; it's light, not flow dependent, and thus can fit with any size pump. It's airless and sealed, eliminating contaminants and moisture ingestion. It can work upside down and even down to the seafloor. Its small size makes it more appealing to fill with bio fluids since these fluids are much more expensive.

The Environmental Benefits

  • Smaller than classic reservoirs; up to 50 times smaller and up to 100 times lighter. Small carbon footprint using less fluid. Its light weight impacts on fuel economy on mobile vehicles
  • The VVR is sealed and airless preventing contamination and moisture entering the fluid consequently prolonging fluid life by 3 to 5 times thus reducing filter replacement and maintenance cost
  • The VVR is up to 50 times smaller in volume than a classic reservoirs Thus it will use up to 5000% less fluid, consequently less to recycle afterwards, resulting into a important reduction in carbon footprint
  • Sealed and airless design prolongs fluid life up to 3 to 5 times, reflecting into a reduction of oil changes additionally with much less filter replacement and reduced maintenance cost

The Financial Benefits

  • 2 solutions for the same application: VVR400 reservoir cost to fill with bio fluid = $ 105 compared to 150 to 300 liters classic reservoirs cost to fill between $2250 and $4500
  • 2 solutions for the same application: VVR400 weight when full = 18kg vs 300 liters steel reservoir weight when full = 425kg
