Increasing the recycling rates of used aluminum coffee capsules
Used coffee capsules are mostly disposed as waste that ends up in the landfill. Coffee brands are increasingly searching for ways to increase the recycling rate of these capsules. The current way of recycling by the consumer is unpractical, unhygienic and not efficient. The Coffeecoiner is a kitchen tool that fits in your cutlery drawer or next to your coffee machine. The tool serves the purpose to remove used coffee grounds from the used capsule. What remains is a flat disc of aluminum, called the Coffeecoin. The coffee grounds can be used for several household, garden and cosmetic purposes. The Coffeecoins can be melted into any new aluminum product, as aluminum does not degenerate when recycled. In this way waste is turned into a resource. The Coffeecoiner itself is made from recycled aluminum. Separating the coffee grounds from the capsule leads to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions because of large logistic savings.
