A government-backed platform helping businesses access funding, expert guidance, and sustainability opportunities
A Business Ecological Transition service, supported by a government or relevant public agency, helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) navigate their ecological transition. It enables them to identify priority projects, access public funding suited to their needs, and, if necessary, connect with advisors to support their sustainability efforts (1). This kind of platform serves as a hub for businesses to: 1. Explore ideas and initiatives for ecological transition, 2. Identify the most relevant national, regional, or local financial support, 3. Get expert guidance to implement their projects effectively. For example, in France, such a platform has enabled an average of 787 companies per month to take concrete steps toward ecological transition by connecting them with suitable investment and subsidy opportunities (1). This model can be adapted to different countries, leveraging government programs, private sector partnerships, and regional policies to support businesses in their sustainability journey (1).
Corporations shape nearly every aspect of modern consumption—they produce what we buy, use, and discard—and play a major role in driving global climate change. A recent report found that just 100 energy companies have been responsible for 71% of all industrial emissions (2). One of the biggest challenges preventing companies from engaging in ecological transition is the lack of funding and financial barriers (3). Yet, at the same time, large-scale public funding is being allocated to support sustainability efforts. In Europe alone, €373 billion has been set aside for energy efficiency measures across all sectors between 2021 and 2027 (4). However, accessing these funds remains a challenge. Many companies find it difficult to navigate the complex landscape of grants and subsidies, often avoiding applications due to uncertainty about eligibility or the time-consuming nature of the process. This is why solutions that simplify access to green funding—like the Business Ecological Transition platform—are essential. By helping businesses identify the right financial support and guiding them through the application process, such initiatives remove key barriers to green investment and accelerate corporate sustainability efforts.
