SAGID

A digital tool to guide territories towards sustainable management strategies

Identification

In a context of resource scarcity due to climate change, roadside management today only consumes resources, whereas it has an untapped production potential if managed sustainably. SAGID is a digital modelling tool to guide territories towards positive externalities and opportunities of roadside management. An example is collecting grass from the verges to transform it into renewable bioenergy through composting or biogas production. Therefore, it should help managers to identify and economically quantify the impacts of alternative management of road dependencies compared to conventional road maintenance. These impacts are social (recruitment of new competencies, local partnerships between farmers, public authorities, companies), economic (less frequent maintenance operations, e.g. ditch cleaning, added value of biomass for energy production), and environmental (renewable bioenergy production without competing with food crops, water quality preservation and biodiversity enhancement).
