Murcia
The municipality of Murcia, in Spain, developed a project in collaboration with Cetenma and other partners to valorize organic waste between November 2018 and October 2022. A pilot plant was installed within the municipal waste treatment facility with several pilot technologies for the conversion of biowaste to protein via Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, and the recovery of nutrients for fertilizers production. Local neighbors, and food markets were involved in the process, allowing the valorisation of 1,7 tonnes of urban biowaste per day.
ValueWaste proposes an integrated solution to fully valorise biowastes into high-value products: Proteins and other products for food & feed and biobased fertilizers. ValueWaste proposes three new value chains that use urban biowaste as raw material for its valorisation into high-value end products in a cascading process. The process is based upon clean technologies, it can be easily implemented and replicated, and results in economic, social and environmental benefits.
