Description

Prescribed burns are an essential tool in the land management toolbox to reduce wildfire impact on the environment and communities. The area to be treated exceeds the yearly capacities of practitioners by far due to staff shortages, safety considerations and challenging weather conditions. Our unmanned wildfire containment system safely contains the progression of the burn allowing a single crew to treat larger areas.

Impact & Result

The seasonal impact of the use of the system means up to two times more area can be treated in the geographies in which the solution has been deployed. Over the next ten-year wildfire cycle this additional treated area is projected to reduce the severity and extent of uncontrolled wildfires and thereby save the emission of up to 800'000 tonnes of CO2eq/year. The social impact of using autonomous and unmanned containment solutions will have positive impact on practitioner health and safety.

Solution Spotlight

The Papageno module is the missing tool for safe and efficient containment of wildfires on a ZIP-code level. Thanks to this simple-to-use apparatus, public entities, such as communities and civil protection agencies, will be capable of shielding critical infrastructure from an advancing fire front with a minimal amount of water. Thanks to its autonomous operating mode, practitioners are not exposed to the risk and can attend other duties meanwhile.
