Description

In 2023, TotalEnergies partnered with ASTRIIS to address a growing operational challenge: their wind farms are spread across different countries, use turbines from various manufacturers, and rely on a patchwork of condition-monitoring systems, making everything hard to manage smoothly. The core issue was not a lack of data, each turbine already carried vibration sensors along its drive train, but rather the difficulty of turning this data into reliable, actionable insights without over-relying on scarce vibration analysis experts.
This is where AStrion, ASTRIIS’s predictive maintenance software, comes in. AStrion ingests raw vibration signals from existing sensors and applies advanced spectral analysis to detect and localise mechanical faults - often weeks or months before the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) systems raise alarms. Crucially, the Software-as-a-service model (SaaS) works across different monitoring platforms without requiring new hardware.

Impact & Result

Through this partnership, AStrion has been deployed on several wind farms in South America. The software not only confirmed defects already identified by OEM systems but did so earlier and with greater precision. This enables smarter planning: operators can secure long lead-time spare parts in advance, schedule interventions when turbines are least needed, and mobilise maintenance teams efficiently. As a result, downtime and indirect costs are reduced, while turbines deliver more hours of clean power.

Solution Spotlight

AStrion is a software package that is designed for the surveillance of industrial rotating machinery. It automatically detects more faults, earlier, than any other similar solution as currently available on the market. It also automatically identifies their location among the monitored equipment components. It integrates all signal processing skills and provides more precise analysis than a human expert, not only because it's automated, but also because its algorithm is performed over the entire frequency band and with high-frequency resolution. It is capable of raising alarms with associated indicators and their evolution over time, so as to be able to track the evolution of a fault's severity in order to provide all relevant information relating to the state of health of a machine. Automation algorithms applied to spectral analysis and signal processing methods enable to identification of future faults several weeks or months in advance, with no need for historical data.
