Thessaloniki City
Thessaloniki
Similarly to major cities, Thessaloniki in Greece was subject to high rates of single-occupancy vehicles resulting in congestion, delays, pollution and mental stress.
Penny began operations during two major infrastructure events, the opening of the new metro line and the flyover project (1). The goal was twofold: reduce car dependency and provide relief to the transport network. Penny was able to achieve this via its moped ride sharing model and became the first e-moped ride-sharing-services provider in Greece. Operating a fleet of 2,000 mopeds of which 10% are electric accessible via the Penny app, the user can locate, scan and ride the nearest e-moped to the end destination. Automated verification, In-app payments, real-time tracking, and 24h AI customer support, provide an all-in-one solution that ensures quick and easy use by the customers, enabling fast adoption when deployed.
Within 1 year, the app has been downloaded more than 5,000 times and is actively used by 4,000 users. Results were significant, since they achieved a ride number increase of 450% without the need for a monetised marketing campaign, as the presence of the characteristic blue e-moped across the city was enough to incentivise users. The e-moped ride-sharing allows to save the equivalent of 40,000 liters in Thessaloniki’s diesel consumption through reduced use of single-occupancy vehicles.
Penny was founded in 2023 and provides e-moped ride-sharing services via its app. Instead of worrying about traffic and parking, Penny provides a cost-efficient, stress-free and sustainable way to move around the city. Simply locate, scan and ride the nearest e-moped to your end destination. We provide in-app payments, real-time tracking, customer verification, as well as 24h customer support (AI). Each individual e-moped is equipped with telematics as well as a built-in alarm preventing theft and misuse. Users benefit from different pricing options tailored to each individual's needs, such as subscriptions, top-ups, as well as after-the-ride pricing for the early adopters. Penny e-mopeds are ideal for short and medium range distances thanks to their 80km autonomy, and can be mounted in 2, hence sharing the service cost. Lastly, via our app, users can rate and commend each ride, providing useful insights from reporting damages to overall feedback of the service experience.
