Description

The installation of a large-scale letter sculpture spelling out “POTSDAM.” Beyond being a public art piece and photo opportunity, this project sets a new standard for sustainable and inclusive urban development. What sets this sculpture apart is its material: CO₂-neutral concrete, made possible through ecoLocked Materials®, a carbon-negative admixture that permanently stores biogenic carbon in the concrete matrix. This is the first city name sculpture in the world made from carbon-storing concrete, transforming a traditional material into a climate solution.
The project demonstrates how cities can reduce embodied carbon in construction materials and turn infrastructure into carbon sinks. It aligns with broader goals of climate-neutral urban development, without compromising design or durability.
The sculpture is also a milestone in accessible design: The large “O” is wheelchair-accessible, reinforcing the message that sustainability must go hand-in-hand with inclusion.

Impact & Result

The sculpture locks away 2.4 tonnes of CO₂ — the equivalent of the sequestration capacity of 40 trees over 10 years.

Solution Spotlight

eLM Zero is an admix material that reduces the net carbon footprint of concrete by up to 100% while delivering optimized performance. It partially substitutes conventional inputs like cement and aggregates, minimizes the carbon footprint, and provides targeted functionalities such as thermal insulation and durability. It combines carbon sequestration, emission reduction, and functional improvements, allowing concrete producers to “inset” carbon and compensate for all residual emissions from the materials they purchase, such as cement, thereby creating carbon-neutral concrete. The integration is simple and occurs directly at the concrete plant or construction site.
