Description

This project is a collective of 23 homes in two buildings, initiated by a social landlord: Haute Savoie Habitat. Initially, the project was to have been built in brick, but the project owner sought to optimise these homes in a virtuous way and to focus on the comfort of future users. The overall cost of the project is 2.5% higher than with brick, but this has enabled Haute Savoie Habitat to create a project with a very low carbon footprint and high thermal performance, which will also enable users to save energy! The landlord also chose wood concrete because it is a 100% recyclable material.

Impact & Result

The building's structure boasts an almost zero carbon footprint, thanks to the perspiration properties of the wood concrete and its significant thermal phase shift, which helps save energy by eliminating the need for cooling systems such as air conditioners. Additionally, the materials are entirely recyclable and locally sourced: the wood comes from forests in the AURA region and is processed in Isère, while the panels are prefabricated just ten kilometers away.

Solution Spotlight

The TimberRoc wood-based concrete is a biosourced concrete used to create load-bearing and non-load-bearing walls and floors for all types of buildings up to R+10 in seismicity zones 1 to 4. A number of construction principles have been developed with ATEx Case A certification, and are available from licensed prefabrication partners. The special feature of wood concrete is that it has a negative carbon footprint, while allowing for structural construction. In addition to this unique advantage on the market, it has remarkable technical properties and responds perfectly to today's construction challenges: very high inertia (guaranteed summer comfort), remarkable sound absorption, fire resistance, etc. It fully meets the requirements of the RE2020, which aims to combat climate change while adapting buildings to future heatwaves.
