M.I.M - Marché Intercommunal Mouscronnois
Mouscron
The Marché International Mouscronnois, a key economic site, needed a sustainable way to power its occupants, small and medium businesses, without compromising the building's unique architectural style. We also wanted to help the municipality achieve its ambitious carbon reduction goals and lead by example in the energy transition. Teaming up with I.E.G, we formed "IEGSUN," a dedicated initiative to drive the energy transition in Mouscron, Comines-Warneton, and Estaimpuis. For this project, we used our patented "Zinclike" technology, a BIPV (Building-Integrated Photovoltaics) solution that merges seamlessly with the M.I.M's haussmann-style zinc roofs. This allows us to maintain the aesthetic appeal while maximizing solar energy production. We installed over 4,000 solar panels, totaling approximately 1.7 MWc, on the M.I.M rooftops, providing clean, local energy to the businesses within the market. Excess energy produced is directed to the nearby Les Dauphins Olympic swimming pool via a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA), further enhancing the project's impact on the community by optimizing unused roof space to support another energy-intensive facility.
The project will generate around 1700 MWh of renewable solar energy every year and is expected to run for at least 30 years (Solar modules being guaranteed 25 years). This converts to roughly 330 tonnes of CO2 eq. avoided yearly. Over the course of its life, it will save +- 9900 tonnes of CO2 eq.
Skysun will sell the renewable energy at a fraction grid prices resulting in a saving of around 80€/MWh for the small and medium businesses. This totals 136.000€ saved yearly for a total of around 4 Million euros over the full lifespan of the MIM project. As for environmental benefits, the IEGSUN JV is ambitioned to deliver 5 to 10 fold this economical impact to the local economy.
Skysun is a solar power third-party investment company that helps businesses transition to solar energy without the burden of upfront investment (CAPEX) or operational costs (OPEX). Skysun handles every aspect of the project—from feasibility studies to permits, investment in solar modules, installation, and long-term operation and maintenance. Businesses enjoy a free PV installation, reduced carbon footprint, and energy at a 30% discount compared to grid electricity. At the end of the contract, the solar panels become the client’s property. Skysun’s model ties its success to that of its clients, ensuring mutual benefits: the more green energy produced, the better the return on investment. This allows us to fund new projects and amplify our environmental impact. With 20 MWp of solar parks across France and Belgium and cutting-edge technologies like our patented Zinclike, Skysun is a trusted partner for sustainable energy solutions.
