Dubai Ports World
Abu Dhabi
After establishing operations and delivering impactful solutions in The Bahamas, Saudi Arabia, and elsewhere, Coral Vita formed a partnership with Dubai Ports World to pilot its model in the country. A land-based farm was established where over a dozen native coral species were grown - including slow-growing species rarely used in projects - in conditions enabling climate resilience. Through this pilot, diverse and resilient coral were outplanted into local reefs across multiple outplanting windows in 2024 and 2025, demonstrating the potential for this model in the UAE and beyond.
With more surveys to follow, corals at the restoration sites have over 90% survivorship after six months. Measured growth rates were over 63% faster than natural rates utilizing the microfragmenting method to accelerate coral growth. 500+ students, officials, and visitors toured the space, and millions of digital impressions were generated to educate people about the importance of corals, the threats they face, and Coral Vita's solution to protect them. Over $500k in revenue was generated.
One billion people and a quarter of all marine life depend on coral reefs, but half of the global reefs are dead and over 90% are on track to die by 2050. The solution consists of a land-based farm capable of potentially supplying an entire nation’s reefs with sufficient capital investment. Coral Vita innovative form of high-tech coral farming supports a for-profit business model to sustain large-scale restoration. Given reefs’ tremendous value, the technology favours the transition of the restoration space into a commercial industry. Implemented restoration projects directly benefit communities by sustaining biodiversity, increasing fish stocks, protecting shorelines from storm surges, boosting tourism, and creating jobs.
