This material, a result of a collaboration between the Lenzing Group and Recyc Leather, combines TENCEL Lyocell fibers with pre-consumer recycled leather fibers through hydro-jetting, significantly reducing waste in the fashion industry. This step underscores Ganni's dedication to sustainability and high fashion standards by addressing leather waste and using eco-friendly materials. It exemplifies how sustainable practices can be adopted in mainstream fashion, encouraging the industry to align with environmental sustainability.
This innovative approach not only reduces water usage by 70% compared to traditional methods, but it also lowers the overall environmental footprint of the production process. By incorporating pre-consumer recycled leather fibers and TENCEL Lyocell, Ganni minimizes waste, conserves valuable natural resources, and promotes a more sustainable supply chain.
Leather processing involves highly polluting processes (tanning is very water and chemical-intensive) while producing a significant amount of waste scraps (about 1 million tonnes going to landfill each year). Recyc Leather is an innovative material produced through an intelligent recycling process of leather scraps from different products, such as garden gloves. Recyc Leather aims to use leather waste to give it a second life and avoid landfill. With a growing demand for ethical, eco-friendly and recycled products, Recyc Leather manufactures both recycled leather and finished products, offering an environmentally friendly alternative to virgin leather. Recyc Leather's products are lighter and have exceptional strength while retaining their original look and feel.
