Hartmann Edelstahlrohre GmbH
Wilnsdorf
In collaboration with our client, Hartmann Edelstahlrohre GmbH, OHS demonstrates how sustainable hydrogen generation can be implemented directly where it is needed. A 30 kW electrolyzer, powered by the company’s own solar PV, produces green hydrogen for industrial use while utilizing waste heat from the annealing furnace. This approach not only reduces CO₂ emissions and improves efficiency, it also provides cost stability and energy independence. At the same time, it eliminates reliance on external gas deliveries, which had been subject to longer lead times. The project clearly shows that on site green hydrogen is already more economical than delivered hydrogen, allowing the company to reliably meet EU RED II targets ahead of schedule. A strong example of a sustainable and resilient future for the industry.
Environmental Impact: CO₂ Savings: 9,765 kg CO₂e/year. Economic Impact: Annual hydrogen costs are reduced by 25% compared to grey hydrogen delivered to site, and this doesn’t even account for the fact that delivered green hydrogen would be even more expensive! Payback time: ~6-8 years
OHS helps industrial companies produce clean hydrogen right where they need it, delivering both environmental benefits and cost savings. Our electrolyzer systems range from small-scale (2.4 kW) to industrial-scale (100 kW), producing between 0.044 kg and 2 kg of green hydrogen per hour. These systems work seamlessly with companies' existing solar panels and generated waste heat during the electrolysis process can be easily integrated into building heating or manufacturing processes—making the most of energy that would otherwise be lost. This on-site approach offers companies multiple advantages. They significantly reduce their carbon footprint while improving operational efficiency and gaining better control over energy costs. Instead of relying on hydrogen deliveries—which can face delays and supply chain issues—companies become energy independent. The economics are compelling: producing hydrogen on-site is already more cost-effective than having it delivered.
