story image

Description

One of our strongest use cases is Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam, where Primal slippers have been used for almost a year. The hotel has adopted our fully circular cork slippers across all rooms, resulting in over 60,000 pairs supplied through two years. Because the slippers are made from Mediterranean cork and circular materials, every used pair is recycled in Portugal into new products, creating a closed loop with zero waste. Hotel Jakarta has shared that both their team and guests “love the slippers,” particularly the comfort, natural materials, and the ability to offer a genuinely sustainable alternative to single-use plastic slippers.

Impact & Result

From an environmental perspective, the Hotel Jakarta project clearly demonstrates the benefits of replacing single-use plastic slippers with our circular cork model. In the first two months, the hotel returned 2,324 used pairs, all of which were fully recycled and repurposed into the bottoms of new slippers. This initial phase already delivered an 83% CO₂ reduction compared to conventional plastic slippers. Since then, the hotel has collected an additional 3,000+ used pairs.

Solution Spotlight

Primal offers a sustainable alternative to the plastic single-use slippers commonly found in hotels and spas. The slippers are made from natural Mediterranean cork and other circular materials, and now also include biodegradable models created from biobased ingredients and food-waste streams. All products are designed to be comfortable, durable, and low-impact. Through our take-back systems, hotels can return used pairs so materials can be recycled or biodegraded instead of becoming waste. This reduces environmental impact, cuts waste streams for hospitality partners, and helps move the industry toward truly circular, nature-friendly solutions.
