In collaboration with Perimeter Forest, Tesera developed a new forest inventory over the productive forest portions of the mixedwood Painted Forest in the central Algoma District (about 80 km NE of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario CANADA). The HRIS project delivered a geospatial polygon dataset that significantly improves the resolution and accuracy of forest landscape and stand level attribute data. These inventory data improvements will also enable the development of sustainable forestland management plans and activities, carbon credits (sequestration and abatement), optimize harvest scheduling plans and activities. It will also support watershed protection, enhance biodiversity, wildlife corridors and protect endangered and vulnerable species.
The Painted Forest IFM-LtPF (Improved Forest Management-Logged to Protected Forest) carbon project is forecast to generate approximately 8,171,948 tCO2e net emissions reductions over 100 years on an ex-ante basis; the crediting period is 100 years. Annual average net emission reductions are projected to be 80,910 tCO2e annually. The total net GHG emission reductions generated in the monitoring period (2021 and 2022) is 249,000 tCO2e.
A more modern, scalable and accurate forest inventory is a better option. It enables better decisions and outcomes with fewer data points, supporting more accurate analysis with less errors and fewer ground plot samples.
