Sand to Green
the Guelmim-Oued Noun region
Sand to Green has implemented an Osmosun unit as part of its agroforestry model designed to reverse soil degradation and make desert lands fertile. This model combines three key elements: agroforestry software, plant engineering, and the use of unconventional water sources (brackish groundwater). For treating these water sources, Sand to Green utilises an Osmosun 6 BW unit, capable of producing up to 140 cubic meters of fresh water per day.
The water is sourced from brackish groundwater and, after treatment, irrigates 31 hectares of plantations. These plantations include fig trees, pomegranate trees, carob trees, and plants such as geranium and rosemary.
Relying on sunlight as a power source, the desalination unit is sustainable and fully independent. To produce drinking water, pressurised seawater is taken through membranes, where the reverse osmosis process takes place. Its intelligent system is specifically engineered to adapt its pump and the pace of the motor in accordance with the amount of sunlight available, which can vary widely and suddenly. All parameters are continuously and instantly optimised to ensure the best energy performance and guarantee the maximum lifetime of the installation and of its delicate membranes.
