City of Heidelberg
Heidelberg
With the aim to become climate-neutral by 2050, the City of Heidelberg, Germany, wanted to address challenges linked to the waste from conversion and demolition of its buildings. They used the solution to perform a complete economic and ecological analysis of the entire building stock in a digital material register. The upload was processed via the Urban Mining Screener, which calculated available resources in 325 buildings based on the location, building type, volume and date of construction.
The analysis enabled important energy savings in the 325 buildings, which translated into important CO2eq impact reductions in the overall emissions of the city. Those results also came with significant savings as the energy expenses were decreased.
Construction information (digital twin) containing asset, product and material data can be stored, enriched and managed. Madaster processes IFC/BIM files and enriches them with data from public and non-public sources. The platform provides a trusted data source for an ecosystem of marketplaces, designers, financers, valuators and regulators. These third-party services are accessible on request of the users. Data security, privacy and availability is supervised by an independent entity. Through its data, Madaster stimulates reuse of materials and decrease of CO2 emissions. Madaster's impact could result in the yearly demolition of 1,38 million buildings and the construction of 1,56 million new ones (EU only) and a global CO2 emission reduction estimated to 38% or 2.0Bln tonnes CO2 by 2050.
