Description

The City of Sainte-Menehould called upon REPLACE to supply the signal poles made from plastic waste from the region in 2021. The implementation included the delivery of 5 signal poles made of plastic waste within the city. The implementation results were positive as they resist storms and high temperatures. The company further identified this region to produce and deliver huge quantities of recycled tutors for the wine industry in Champagne, and was able to complete a plant installation in parallel.

Impact & Result

  • Recycled 500 tons of plastic waste in 8 months, reducing landfill contributions and promoting circular economy practices.
  • Produced storm- and heat-resistant signal poles from recycled plastic, extending product lifespan and reducing waste.
  • Established a recycling plant in the region, creating jobs and boosting the local economy.

Solution Spotlight

The "recyclability" of some plastics is degraded by the presence of additives, which have allowed the packaging to give special qualities (strength, lightness, etc.). Once used, these materials, known as "multi-component plastic packaging," are a major problem in the plastic lifecycle (end up at best in incineration or burial), although they are a solution to reduce the carbon footprint and overall weight of plastics Packaging. "LOCAL3" proposes to create and develop an industrial solution for multi-component plastics, by processing units using post-industrial and post-consumer waste deposits and developing useful, competitive and recyclable products that can be used locally. The Solution allows all plastics to be reused in a circular economy on a human scale, easily deployable in the areas of material creation concerned. Locally sourced, locally transformed and locally used
