Farm in Goldau
Goldau
In 2019-2020, the Kopros® cleantech solution was implemented at a farm in Goldau, Switzerland, hosting around 500 pigs, to tackle ammonia emissions. The farm had a grid system with a 200 m3 pit prone to ammonia buildup, harmful to both animals and workers. On October 9, 2019, a double dose of Kopros® was applied, followed by single doses to maintain conditions. Monthly data collection with an ammonia detector over six months showed significant reductions in ammonia levels. This improved air quality, pig health, and worker safety, while also reducing environmental pollution and supporting sustainable farming practices, aligning with Switzerland's environmental standards.
The use of Kopros in the treated areas led to a remarkable average reduction of 50% in various measured factors when compared to the control area. This substantial decrease indicates that Kopros had a significant impact on the parameters being studied, demonstrating its effectiveness in improving outcomes.
Ammonia and other gases are generated in animal husbandry due to poor activity of the micro-organisms present in the manure. Kopros® rebalances and reactivates these natural microorganism populations so that the correct mineralization and humification activities can take place, and the elements are fixed in the manure/mud instead of being released into the air as gases. The main reason for ammonia emissions is due in particular to a high concentration of animals on small areas, and that the manure is also stored in a very concentrated way. In this situation, elements such as nitrogen, sulfur and other elements become toxic to the microorganisms, which eliminate them by producing gas, which has an impact on the well-being of the animals and their productivity.
