Michelin, with €20 billion in revenue, aimed to reduce its spare parts inventory from €500 million to €350 million. In 2020, we conducted a Proof of Concept using advanced algorithms to eliminate duplicate entries in 21,000 references, identifying 9,000 duplicates. Impressed by the results, Michelin expanded the project in 2021 to deduplicate 600,000 references. This initiative improved database accuracy, prevented redundant purchases, and uncovered €3 million in dormant parts, which Michelin has since listed for sale, optimizing inventory and resource use.
By reintegrating these assets into the economy, we’ve unlocked substantial economic and environmental benefits: the equivalent of 3,500 tons of raw materials saved and 450 tons of CO₂ emissions avoided. Michelin had initially considered a manual approach to this task, estimating it would require two full-time employees working over 20 years. With our automated solution, these resources are now efficiently repurposed, supporting both sustainability goals and operational efficiency.
