ENGIE
La Rochelle
In 2017, Engie and the Charente-Maritime department installed 514 m² of HelioSol solar film on the zinc roof of a secondary school in La Rochelle to supply green energy for the building's lighting and cooling systems. The zinc roof's lightweight structure necessitated the use of a product that was easy to install, and the HelioSol film system, with its R&D production line, was a perfect fit. The installation covered 514 m² and had a capacity of 22.5 kWp. Six workers completed the installation of 378 individual films in just 8 hours.
In 2019, a total of 20,925 kWh of energy was produced, which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 4.5 households, while simultaneously preventing the emission of 1,300 kg of CO2 when compared to the energy mix of the French grid.
HeliaSol® is flexible, ultra-lightweight and ultra-thin, which enables more surfaces to become energy generator. The film is perfectly suited on curved or non-straight rooftops, ones with low static conditions like old buildings or lightweight industrial buildings, which usually cannot take traditional PV solutions. Even Façade installations can be realised with HeliaSol®. The solar film is a ready-to-use product with a specific adhesive on the back, which is glued directly to surfaces like steel, concrete and rooftop membranes.
