Flocus Kapok Fiber, an innovative cleantech solution, has been successfully implemented by Protective, a leading bikewear manufacturer based in Frankfurt, Germany. Driven by a commitment to sustainability and superior performance, Protective adopted a 100GSM non-woven material composed of 70% kapok and 30% recycled polyester for their mountain bike jackets.
Kapok fiber, renowned for its lightweight and excellent thermo-regulation properties, ensures these jackets remain effective in temperature ranges from -15°C to +15°C, making them versatile for year-round use. This advancement addresses the challenge of providing high-performance insulation without compromising on weight or bulkiness — a crucial factor for outdoor and sports apparel.
The program was first launched in 2016 and has continued to operate successfully, evolving into a highly anticipated annual initiative that has been consistently repeated every winter season since its inception.
Flocus is revolutionizing the kapok industry by industrializing the opening and sorting of kapok pods with automation and social standards that were previously unavailable traditionally only reliant on heavy manual labor without social compliance, Flocus is the first and only company to implement these ethical practices. The state of the art facility ensures clean, lightweight, hypoallergenic non-toxic kapok fiber, ideal for applications such as textiles, insulation, and nonwovens, due to its excellent insulating properties and natural buoyancy.
