Thessaloniki has high rates of single-occupancy vehicles. 65% of daily trips that either start of finish at the city center are being made by single-occupancy vehicles (G. Urban mobility indicators for Thessaloniki) resulting in congestion, delays, pollution and mental stress. We introduced penny with small fleet numbers, small zones and we monitored. By introducing behavior-improvement tools to prevent misuse and with quick reaction time and active customer support penny achieved a very positive feedback of 4.5/5. Penny was learning and adapting every day for a whole year. Eventually built proof of concept, counting more than 4,000 active users in the platform without any marketing expense.
The biggest measurable environmental impact from MAY-24 to APR-25 came from direct operations (gCO2/km driven) at ~2,4 tons of CO₂ saved. Penny managed to operate at very low electricity consumption relative to CO₂ saved from direct operations resulting in high sustainability impact on a per-moped basis . From MAY-24 to APR-25 revenue increased by 339% and are increasing by ~15% on average QoQ.
Penny was founded in 2023 and provides e-moped ride-sharing services via its app. Instead of worrying about traffic and parking, Penny provides a cost-efficient, stress-free and sustainable way to move around the city. Simply locate, scan and ride the nearest e-moped to your end destination. We provide in-app payments, real-time tracking, customer verification, as well as 24h customer support (AI). Each individual e-moped is equipped with telematics as well as a built-in alarm preventing theft and misuse. Users benefit from different pricing options tailored to each individual's needs, such as subscriptions, top-ups, as well as after-the-ride pricing for the early adopters. Penny e-mopeds are ideal for short and medium range distances thanks to their 80km autonomy, and can be mounted in 2, hence sharing the service cost. Lastly, via our app, users can rate and commend each ride, providing useful insights from reporting damages to overall feedback of the service experience.
