Energy savings: how is the Meuse department scaling up?

Implementation Date

By

Department of Meuse

story image

Description

The Department of Meuse partnered with the French startup Agora Software to monitor and optimize energy consumption in its buildings, particularly focusing on colleges that represent 60% of its real estate assets. The initiative was driven by rising energy costs and regulatory requirements, such as the Tertiary Decree mandating significant energy reductions by 2030, 2040, and 2050. By deploying 179 environmental sensors and 15 LoRaWAN gateways, the department gained real-time insights into temperature, CO2 levels, and other factors, enabling better energy management and identifying deviations from set targets. The project, costing 36,700 euros and 50% funded by the Chêne program, aims to achieve 130,000 euros in savings with a rapid return on investment.

Impact & Result

During the initial 6-month period (winter 24/25), saving are estimated as: - minus 1.400.000 kWh - minus 310.000 kgCOeq - minus 130.000 k€ The pay-back time is largely achieved in year 1 for a 3y+ usage of the solution.

The deployment took just one day, but preparation and explanation are crucial.
