Coop Innlandet SA
Rudshøgda
Coop is a prominent food retailer in Norway with a network of over 1’200 stores nationwide, spanning urban centres and rural communities alike, providing essential goods to consumers across the country. Coop has set forward an ambitious plan to decarbonise its operations and reduce energy consumption, multiplying initiatives aimed at accelerating its transition. In this context, the firm was looking for an innovative solution to support the decarbonisation of its refrigeration assets. In partnership with Danfoss, Aneo introduced Energy Efficiency-as-a-Service (EaaS). EaaS represents a capital-free, innovative and comprehensive solution, serving as a compelling alternative to traditional financing models enabling access to more sustainable energy systems. ANEO Retail assumes full management of assets, overseeing the entire lifecycle from design and installation to ongoing operation, including servicing and maintenance.
The solution has reduced overall energy consumption by 50% and implemented natural refrigerants, leading to reduced emissions. Under EaaS, Coop has not provided capital to invest in the assets, instead paying a monthly fee based on usage of the refrigeration service received. The program of 9 retrofit stores & 1 new store was completed in 18 months. Today, the systems record up to 50% efficiency gains, representing more than 6million kWh of energy saved per year and 1 650 tons of CO2e avoided.
Refrigeration / Efficiency as a Service is a concept developed by ANEO Retail offered to customers in the Food Retail market. Supermarkets are known to have a high Energy/m2 & cooling costs are among the highest drivers in both Capex and Opex costs. ANEO Retail offer a full bundled solution towards these customers, where they own the assets, operate them, and service them all at the expense of a monthly Operating Fee from the customer side. Customers experience a reduced investment need in Capex & transfer this to an operating cost coupled with significant energy savings (20-50%) on their stores. ANEO Retail monitor & develop efficient solutions which ensure that the customer has the lowest possible energy consumption for their store. ANEO Retail take the risk of the equipment & ensure that the customer has no unwanted surprises in their cooling system, enabling them to focus on what they are best at. An outcome based business model gives a better cost overview & better efficiency.
