Regenbox
Thiers
The RegenBox tester-chargers, made from Greenfib®, illustrate an innovative and virtuous use case. Designed to regenerate used alkaline batteries, it meets a twofold challenge: reducing waste and energy wastage, while extending battery life. This choice was made in recognition of the fact that 2/3 of batteries thrown away are still usable. Greenfib®, a 100% biosourced, recyclable material from non-growing crops, manufactured in France and with a low carbon footprint, offers a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based plastics, while guaranteeing demanding mechanical and thermal properties. The charger designed in this way is robust, environmentally friendly and supports a responsible industrial sector. This implementation demonstrates a successful alliance between material innovation and measurable environmental impact, in line with sustainable development objectives.
In France in 2021, 997 million alkaline batteries were sold, ~30,000 tonnes of waste. Each RegenBox regenerates 2/3 of the batteries, reducing waste and extending their life. This represents 145g of CO2 avoided per battery and up to 200L of water. Made from Greenfib®, a recyclable and 100% biobased material, its carbon impact is 1.23kgCO2eq/kg compound, half that of PP.
Regeneration costs less than 1 cent per battery, and the average price of an alkaline battery (75% of sales) is €0.70 inc VAT.
Greenfib®, patented in 2011, is composed of a binder extracted from castor oil, organic fillers (wood fiber, reed, sea silk), and calcium carbonate (from marble waste or oyster shells). It is 100% bio-based, sustainable, recyclable, and derived from non-food crops, meeting the needs of companies seeking a responsible alternative to conventional plastic. Etymologically, “economy” means “management of the house,” while “ecology” means “knowledge of the house”—we offer a fitting answer to a well-asked question. “With ambition and humility, we contribute to an ecologically mature world, in harmony with all living things. Together, we can act differently to make this vision both possible and inspiring—through our materials, while remembering that the least polluting materials are those we don’t produce. And through our shared commitment to sustainable behaviors. Each of us brings our unique approach, but together, we can accomplish much more…”
