Clean Air Enterprise: Decarbonising HVAC While Enhancing Indoor Air Quality at Expo City Dubai

Description

Expo City Dubai partnered with Clean Air Enterprise (CAE) to pilot an innovative indoor air filtration solution targeting two key challenges : poor indoor air quality and the high energy consumption of HVAC systems. The solution captures 99.5% of PM2.5, including black carbon -1,000x more harmful than CO₂ - and optimises HVAC efficiency by reducing pressure drop. CAE’s technology was integrated into selected buildings, aligning with Dubai’s Net Zero goals and setting a new benchmark for air quality and energy performance in the built environment.

Impact & Result

• Environmental: 13% HVAC energy savings, 115 tons CO₂eq saved and 2 tons CO₂eq captured yearly.
• Economic: Payback <3 years, long-term OPEX savings, improved ESG ratings.

Solution Spotlight

Thanks to this solution, bacteria and fours are rendered harmless in the 8,000-volt zone and the fungal spores and yeast are filtered according to their degree of separation. An existing ventilation system can be converted in about 2.5 hours. Smart E-Filter doesn't induce the burning of plastic, glass fibres or wood. With its innovative technology, more than 80% of energy can be saved compared to conventional two-stage bag filter combinations. Once installed, Smart E-Filter reduces the risk of bacteria proliferation, reducing the number of sick days of the users and increasing their performance. Highly customizable, The Smart E filter technology is already protected by a European patent.
