Description

Reports from the WHO revealed that particulate matter causes cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and even cancer. Currently, 1 out of every 8 deaths in the world is due to exposure to polluted air. Only in Mexico, 14,600 people die yearly due to exposure to PM 2.5 particles, according to the information of the National Institute for Public Health (INSP). In response to this problem our co-founder, Carlos Monroy Sampieri, biologist from the University of Veracruz, created the company BiomiTech with the objective of developing systems to mitigate environmental pollution in the setting of urban mobility. Our first system was installed in Puebla, outside the Cultural Complex of the Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP), as part of a government initiative.

Impact & Result

The system processes 3,200 cubic meters of polluted air per hour, drawing in this air and directing it into the tower. The continuous flow of this air ensures a steady supply of resources that support the microalgae's metabolic processes, contributing to their overall growth and efficiency.

Solution Spotlight

The BioUrban air purification system is a green technology based on micro-algae, designed for the urban and indoor sector to transform various polluting compounds such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen, etc. into oxygen and biomass through the process of photosynthesis. The solution is based on nature as an air purification solution for industry, through the process of photosynthesis.
