Description

AMBILAMP, the Association for the Recycling of Lighting Waste in Spain, and Bin-e have together developed the world's first AI smart waste bin to segregate electro waste. After the pilot test, a series of smart bins were installed in a selection of large shopping centres, such as C. P. Equinoccio, Leroy Merlin, El Corte Inglés, comes the time to enter the whole Spanish market. Therefore, AMBILAMP and Bin-e have together developed a strong partnership at the Spanish Market. Moreover, this cooperation brought to the world another smart device, Bin-e Electro. It is a smart waste deposit device for collecting special fractions such as batteries, electro-waste, cosmetics packaging, toner cartridges, sources of light, coffee capsules and more. It was created in cooperation with AMBILAMP according to very specific requirements and is a perfect example of our project cooperation with partners. Total number of devices delivered - 200. The pilot phase has been completed and now we are in the implementation phase of the basic project.

Impact & Result

Bin-e Electro devices have collected during the pilot phase 30,941.93 kg of waste. The waste was collected into separate fractions: batteries (pilas), electronica (electronics), bombillas (light bulbs), cartuchos de tinta - toner (ink cartridges), capsulas (coffee capsules). Bin-e AI devices have collected 19 228 pieces of waste during the pilot phase. 48,73% of waste was lightbulbs and 51,11% was other waste.

Solution Spotlight

Even though, the need to re-use raw materials keeps increasing, only 29% of waste is recycled nowadays. Recycling guidelines are confusing for people to follow and waste management remains inefficient, it's not a data-driven process. Bin-e is an AI-based smart waste bin that aims to tackle these issues. It recognises, sorts and compresses the waste automatically. Thanks to the compression of plastic and paper the frequency of emptying the bins is reduced by half. The integrated app delivers real-time data that allows to optimize waste management operations. Bin-e is designed for offices and public places, enabling them to achieve efficiency in waste management and reach green strategy goals. It combines most advanced technology to simplify recycling and facilitate the transition to a circular economy.
