FoxTower Portland
Portland
Background: Fox Tower, a high-rise mixed-use building in Portland, Oregon, faced recurring failures in its legacy Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system. The existing built-up air handling unit relied on three large vane axial fans that were difficult to replace due to space constraints in the mechanical room. These failures resulted in high maintenance costs, downtime, and occupant comfort issues. Challenge: Frequent breakdowns of aging fans Limited space for installing new equipment High energy consumption and operational risk Need for minimal disruption during retrofit Solution: XNRGY deployed its XNFan modular fan system, which provided: Compact, modular design ideal for tight mechanical spaces High airflow and energy efficiency, reducing energy costs Ease of installation, minimizing downtime Improved reliability and reduced maintenance requirements
The retrofit significantly reduced energy consumption by replacing three large vane axial fans with 42 high-efficiency modular XNFans, avoiding the need for 102 ECM fans. This design minimized material waste by leveraging the existing air handler structure and reduced maintenance costs through improved reliability. The solution delivers measurable energy savings, contributing to lower CO₂ emissions aligned with Portland’s climate goals, while offering a cost-effective alternative with strong ROI
XNRGY provides a portfolio of high-performance cooling solutions designed to reduce the environmental footprint of mission-critical buildings. Its oil-free centrifugal chillers, CFD-optimized air handling units, modular fan arrays, and proprietary controls deliver significant energy and water savings while ensuring resilience and reliability for data centers, hospitals, and laboratories.
