A Spanish municipality
Bilbao
In partnership with a Spanish municipality, Solum installed 16 kWp of Arena photovoltaic pavement on the rooftop terrace of a public school, covering approximately 95 m². The goal was to demonstrate how solar energy can be integrated into urban buildings without compromising space, aesthetics, or requiring structural modifications. Arena was chosen for its ability to function as both flooring and energy generator, offering a dual-purpose solution in an educational setting. The installation performs at levels comparable to monocrystalline silicon panels with a 0º tilt, confirming its efficiency even in flat, walkable applications. This project has not only reduced the building’s energy consumption but also serves as a live educational tool for students, reinforcing the value of clean energy and sustainable innovation.
Environmental impact: The installation of 16 kWp of Arena solar pavement on the school rooftop generates approximately 22,000 kWh of clean energy per year, avoiding around 5.2 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. By using walkable solar flooring, the project also eliminates the need for traditional support structures, reducing material use and construction waste. Economic impact: The energy produced covers a significant portion of the school's daytime consumption, leading to estimated monthly saving
Arena is a walkable solar floor that transforms rooftops, terraces, and parking areas into clean energy sources. Unlike traditional solar panels, Arena blends seamlessly into the urban environment and can be installed where space, aesthetics, or regulations prevent regular panels. It produces renewable energy without taking up extra space or requiring structural changes, helping buildings reduce electricity costs and their carbon footprint in a simple, elegant way.
