In 2019, the City of Hanau, Germany, implemented the aREAL® platform as part of its urban development strategy, digitalizing its entire inner city. Using the aREAL® software and iPad App, Hanau identified 63 development areas across 17 hectares, optimizing the urban planning process.
The platform's advanced data management and visualization tools helped streamline land use planning, improve data accuracy, and integrate multiple data sources for better decision-making. As a result, Hanau achieved higher planning precision, better coordination, and enhanced communication with stakeholders. The digital platform also supported more transparent, data-driven decision-making aligned with sustainability goals.
Hanau’s adoption of aREAL® serves as a model for cities looking to leverage technology for smarter, more resilient urban development.
aREAL® is a platform that combines all these different data sources. It digitises the entire process of recording, digitising, qualifying and activating inner-city development potential such as vacancies, brownfield sites, unused areas, redensification areas and potential for expansion. aREAL® enables map-based presentation of development potential from a variety of data sources and formats of a municipality. By activating these inner-city areas, it helps to reduce land considerably.
