Maturity stage TRL 6 / 7 - Prototype demonstration 1:1

Ampact is a copper magnet wire using new coating technology (PEEK) with excellent performance in high-voltage electric motor applications (such as the new generation of 800V electric vehicles). The solution enables long-term, reliable performance in challenging e-motor applications while reaching higher efficiency than existing enamel-coated magnet wires. Due to the better insulation properties, the superior coating flexibility and better thermal and chemical resistance, this new product allows for more efficient, more compact and better-cooled stator designs (with lower heat losses). Moreover, the product is more sustainable as it has lower CO2 emissions and avoids the use of harmful solvents during the production process.

The Environmental Benefits

  • Better insulation performance enabling safe use of high-voltage e-motor technology
  • A more sustainable production, that avoids the use of harmful solvents and that has a lower CO2 emission
  • Enabling E-motors with higher power density and extended BEV drive range
  • Direct reduction in emissions and materials when producing the new solution (up to 6x less)
  • The new solution enables the design and use of high-voltage e-motors with improved energy efficiency (up to 10% more driving range)
  • For every kg of wire produced, the new solution can avoid use of 3 to 4 liter of hazardous solvents
  • The new solution uses material that can be recycled (either as production scrap or at end of life stage of the final component)

The Financial Benefits

  • The use of PEEK coated magnet wire can save up to 100€ in other material component costs and processing efficiency gains
  • PEEK coated magnet wire enable long-lasting and safe use of high voltage drivetrains that can save up to 1500€ of battery cost
