Sign upArtificial intelligence for saving water resources and energy on water distribution networks
HpO® aims at making public water distribution networks more efficient, sustainable and resilient today and in the next decades. HpO® relies on Artificial Intelligence and engineering services to predict failures, prevent leaks and save water resources and energy on water distribution networks. It gives two valuable outputs: which streets to inspect first for leak detection so as to reduce the duration of existing leaks; and which network components to replace first for maximum technical and financial performance to reduce the number of leaks in the future. HpO® also accounts for the ageing of water networks everywhere in the world. They are buried and the threat remains invisible. The investment costs for water network replacement are too high to be sustainable on a short period of time. This investment has to be stretched out over decades, starting today. HpO® helps to predict risks and target the replacements where they will be the most efficient, year after year.

AI for high-efficiency Water Networks by Altereo
Implemented by Grand Annecy in Annecy (France) in 2022
The Greater Annecy area, a French agglomeration community, is in its first year of using HpO® technology. The analysis of 2,000 past failures has enabled the prediction of the risk of failure and the development of an optimized replacement program for its 1,660 km of drinking water networks for the next 5 years, with an allocated budget of 5 million euros per year, which corresponds to 1% of the network replaced each year.
Result
The predictive approach here is twice as effective as replacing the pipes according to their age
