Translucency & High-Efficiency in Agrivoltaics lets enough light pass through for crops and can provide more energy than conventional PV modules.
The combination of agriculture and photovoltaics (Agrivoltaics or APV) holds the promise for enabling Europe's energy transition through dual use of land. APV can be deployed at lower cost than rooftop PV whilst improving agricultural yields and water usage. However, current solutions are based on conventional opaque silicon panels which is not optimal, as they have to be very spaced out to minimize impact on agricultural yields. Indeed, THEIA enables APV without tradeoff between electricity and agricultural production. 30-160% more energy is produced per m2 and increased crop yields. Impact on required surfaces of land for solar PV generation tremendous, as 100% densification is achieved. The solution further enables decarbonization of agriculture, increased revenues for farmers and lower water consumption.
