NEOSTEP - A new membrane technology associated with a specific biological reactor for drinking water quality production from wastewater

The environmental impact of wastewater is constantly increasing with the demographic explosion and access to drinking water is becoming more and more difficult. The NEOSTEP solution developed by NEREUS transforms wastewater into recovered water. Thanks to its flexibility, water uses range from agricultural to drinking water. The NEOSTEP® solution embeds the latest generation of membranes allowing dynamic nanofiltration coupled with biological treatment and a final stage of filtration by reverse osmosis. Neostep is made to be energy-efficient, modular, robust and cheap ! NEREUS is the first water company to be labeled by the French environment ministry GreenTech "Acceleration" for its innovation potential.

Key features

  • Up to 95% of the wastewater is recycled
  • The extracted water is 100% reusable
  • Dynamic nanofiltration consumes 5 times less energy than tangential filtration
  • 2850 m3 of reused water, the equivalent of an olympic pool of drinking water saved every year
  • Up to 49.7 kWh of recovered heat each year, 9.2 tons of Co2 emissions avoided
  • 0 liquid discharge on the wastewater network

Profitability

  • 5 times less energy consumption than conventional static membrane
  • Less than 4,9 euros per m3 of recycled water on a Neostep unit, amortized over 12 years
  • Control of water quality according to needs throughout the year

Maturity Stage

  • Medium and large scale commercialization
  • Small scale commercialization
  • Initial market commercialization
  • Prototype testing in the real world
  • Prototype testing 1:1 in the lab
