Industry accounts for almost the 30% of global water demand. Improper treatment of this water can lead to environmental and human health problems. MagnetoSponges aims to provide a competitive, environmentally sustainable and scalable waste water treatment solution. MagnetoSponges are micron-aggregates of magnetic functionalised nanoparticles between 10 and 50 nm. This gives to the technology advantages both in terms of extremely high surface area of nanomaterial (high efficiency), and in terms of easy removal of micro-material. The use of this technology enables water to be recycled directly on site; sharply reduces the amount of space needed for purification infrastructure; and is suitable for use on-site, as a turn-key service, or even in mobile water-treatment plants. This delivers clear environmental and financial benefits for industrial companies. MagnetoSponges can also be used for gas stream treatment and purification to reduce the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
