Environmental clean-up - A Solution for the ecological treatment of complex environmental pollutions.
Innovative solution for the biological treatment of soil organic contamination, with proven success on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH up to 6 aromatic rings), BTEX and heavy mineral oil (C35-C40 fraction of total petroleum hydrocarbons).
Due to past and current industrial activities, the soil matrices in Europe have been contaminated with a vast array of toxic xenobiotics, jeopardising human health and natural ecosystems. The annual expenditures for the management of contaminated sites in Europe is estimated to be nearly 6bn€ annually and representing 0.04% of the EU’s GDP. Rupturing from the usual industrial practices such as: landfilling (also referred as "dig and dump") physicochemical treatments, thermal desorption, and conventional bioremediation), the Solution relies on fungi. Fungi are indeed known to have a remarkable ability to degrade recalcitrant compounds and highly toxic molecules. The Solution consists of onsite treatment of excavated soil via soil fungal enrichment (biopile), ensuring effective contaminant reduction as well as soil biodiversity enhancement.
