Biohut© - An artificial nursery system for fish and aquatic animals to help reduce juvenile mortality in ports
Human activity around coasts has had a negative impact on fragile natural habitats such as fish nurseries. The Biohut© is an artificial habitat that aiming to tackle this challenge and restore the ecological function of fish nurseries usually provided by shallow rocky or sandy bottoms. The design of the Biohut© comes from observation and understanding of the ecological functions provided by natural nursery areas. The Solution provides a complex natural substrate that is colonized by rich fauna and flora that is the food resource of juvenile fish, and a physical shelter where predators are not able to reach juvenile fish. The Biohut© is easy to install, even at a large scale, in ports, marinas, or on all kind of infrastructures, and it is also a perfect support to raise public awareness about marine biodiversity protection.
