B:bot - Increasing the collection rate of plastic bottles in cities while lowering the cost of recycling
The B:bot project started with the observation that 480 billion plastic bottles are being thrown away worldwide and of the 55% of bottles recycled in France, only 5% become bottles again in a true circular economy. Moreover, manufacturers are trying to incorporate more recycled material into the manufacture of their bottles but they are now facing an economic problem: making new bottles from recycled material costs more than using oil. Based on this, we have sought a solution to increase the collection rate of plastic bottles in cities while lowering the cost of recycling.
GreenBig offers its solution dedicated to the collection and sorting of PET bottles. B:bot is a device of less than one square meter (0.88m2) that can hold a total of about 3000 shredded plastic bottles. Consisting of 5 rotating bins, it can collect 30 waste per minute, allowing the user to bring back a large stock of bottles. Shredding plastic bottles at source makes it easier to store the raw material, as well as facilitating transport and logistics. The resale of the material to the beverage industry makes the business model virtuous, combining ecology and economy.
