Aggneo® - Valorization of recycled aggregates from concrete waste in low-carbon concrete

Aggneo® recycles concrete waste by having dedicated platforms located near concrete plants and close to city centres (-2km). The process is a circular economy loop. An example is the LHB concrete plants in Lyon transfer their waste to the Saint Fons platform, which recycles it into aggregates for the road and for concrete. The quality of the 4/16 materials is monitored (and good quality type 1). These materials are reintroduced into the concrete formulas of our concrete plants. These aggregates stored in the open during a long time and with a significant exposure area can further capture / sequestration CO2. : economic gain, saving of natural resources (aggregates), CO2 absorption, responding to calls for tenders of high quality aggregates.

Key features

  • Currently the 4/16 aggeo recycled gravel for concrete is introduced up to 150kg, which means as much as 250kg per cubic meter of natural aggregates saved
  • Reference building in downtown Lyon can include significant volume of concrete made with recycled aggregates, and obtain a better score within a sustainable construction labelling scheme
  • By 2025 we have a target of producing 70Kt in a single platform in France (allowing the storage of 900 tonnes CO2 per year). At global scale the potential impact is multiplied significantly
  • Our activities in a single platform will result in the saving of 100kt of natural raw materials
  • The integration of the solution into the urban areas provides answers to the issues of the construction sites located in the city, and the recovery of waste from deconstruction

Profitability

  • The customer is already winning, right now. Development of the multi-activity platform and increase in entrants (concrete sludge, demolition concrete) to have a larger divider and offer a global offer
  • The development of cities such as lyon is carried out by renovating and reconstructing low-carbon housing buildings on former industrial wastelands
  • LH intends to also treat and enhance non-inert, non-hazardous polluted soil, improving the efficient use of our natural reserves

Maturity Stage

  • Medium and large scale commercialization
  • Small scale commercialization
  • Initial market commercialization
  • Prototype testing in the real world
  • Prototype testing 1:1 in the lab
