SEATURNS is developing a wave energy converter to produce freshwater or electricity

The start-up SEATURNS is developing since 2015 a breakthrough solution to produce freshwater or electricity from wave energy, a significant resource on a global scale. This project is managed by two partners with complementary profiles - an entrepreneur and an engineer convinced that marine renewable energy is a solution for the future. After technical and economic feasibility studies, SEATURNS has developed and patented an innovative energy recovery solution. Tests conducted in 2017 in the École Centrale de Nantes wave basin complemented by studies in 2018 demonstrated the technical and economic relevance of the concept developed by SEATURNS. Based on these very positive conclusions, the company is engaged in a development phase focused on an ambitious R&D program (€1.9M over 2 years).

SEAxxx-W is the SEATURNS wave energy converter designed for freshwater production.
Unit power: 100 to 200 kW

# MARKET
This solution is intended for the supply of isolated sites at first (islands, isolated coastal areas, offshore platforms...) and distribution networks in a second phase. The targeted geographical areas are Islands or archipelagos (Canary, Azores, Seychelles, French Polynesia, New Caledonia…), countries or regions with high water demand and low resources (South Africa, New Zealand, Chile, Spain, Morocco...) and regions with high ecological pressure (California, Canary Islands...). Customers will be beach resorts, local authorities, industries, oil companies, agricultural players, major global operators of water treatment...

# FUNCTIONING
Seawater is desalinated by the reverse osmosis process. Seawater is captured and pressurized by the wave power system, then filtration is carried out on land.
Thanks to a patented anchoring system, under the action of the swell, a cylindrical float is animated by a pitching movement around its axis. The oscillating water pendulum, similar to an oscillating water column, induces compression / depression cycles in two chambers filled with air. The pressure differential between the two chambers generates a flow of air that drives a turbine, itself coupled with a pump. This pump sends seawater under pressure to the filtration unit.
