About

Zambia has a youthful national population standing at 17 million with a $18 billion GDP, 75% of the energy consumed is biomass (charcoal and firewood) leading to huge deforestation,18% of the energy consumed is electrical energy of which 80% is hydropower. Additionally, Zambia has no proven or exploited petroleum oil or gas deposit, all petroleum based products are imported either as petroleum feed stock or as refined products. 2019 showed a rapid growth in post-consumer plastic waste over 450,000 mmt, while only 9 percent is estimated to be recycled. Additionally, Zambia has over 600,000 registered cars generating over 5.4 million tonnes of waste tyres per quarter. Our technology involves chemical recycling of waste plastic and rubber into liquid fuel, carbon black and flammable gases. Our liquid fuel is a cleaner substitute for heavy fuel oils (HFO) used in industrial purposes, the oil burns cleaner with 22% less Carbon dioxide emission than the regular industrial fuels, we are turning the carbon black into cleaner charcoal helping to prevent deforestation and illnesses caused by the used of biomass for cooking purposes. Quarter of the gases derived is used to maintain the pyrolysis process while three quarters gas is to be used in electrical generation. Our process reduces the dependence on expensive and foreign energy sources by generating alternative fuels from locally sourced and abundant raw material, technically our process involves and extraction stage where waste plastic and tire are treated extracting liquid fuel, gas fuel and carbon black, the final stage involves generation where the gas fuel is used in electrical energy generation. We are currently at the prototyping stage, we aim to establish a small scale pyrolysis plant next year with a 200 tonne capacity for extraction processes and a 250MW power generation plant.
