As the inventor of the technology, Rabtherm builds the most energy efficient and cost effective heat recovery system that can be used for heating and cooling alike. The first plant was commissioned in 1999.
Rabtherm's sustainable energy solution provides heat for heating, domestic hot water and cooling for buildings or entire city blocks. It comes as a complete system for heat recovery from sewers with guaranteed heating power adapted to the customer's need. The system consists of a heat exchanger, a heat pump and a peak boiler. The heat exchanger as the core piece can be retrofitted into existing sewer pipes, or be an integrated part in a new pipe.

Heat exchanger modules made of steel are installed in existing sewers, from where the extracted heat is coupled to a heat pump, and supplemented by a peak boiler. The heat exchanger have a negligible influence on the cross-section of the sewer. In the picture, the stainless steel heat exchangers are visible in the centre of the image (the dry weather gutter). A patented anti-fouling system effectively prevents any bio-film build-up, thereby allowing for maintenance free operation.
